چکیده
We introduce a new algorithm for fitting a Catmull-Clark subdivision surface to a given shape within a prescribed tolerance, based on the method of quasi-interpolation. The fitting algorithm is fast, local and scalable since it does not require the solution of linear systems. Its convergence rate is optimal for regular meshes and our experiments show that it behaves very well for irregular meshes. We demonstrate the power and versatility of our method with a number of interactive modeling examples.

Direct Manipulation of Subdivision Surfaces on GPU
We present an algorithm for interactive deformation of subdivision surfaces, including displaced subdivision surfaces and subdivision surfaces with geometric textures. Our system lets the user directly manipulate the surface using freely-selected surface points as handles. During deformation the control mesh vertices are automatically adjusted such that the deforming surface satisfies the handl...
متن کاملTheoretically-based algorithms for robustly tracking intersection curves of deforming surfaces
This paper applies singularity theory of mappings of surfaces to 3-space and the generic transitions occurring in their deformations to develop algorithms for continuously and robustly tracking the intersection curves of two deforming parametric spline surfaces, when the deformation is represented as a family of generalized offset surfaces. The set of intersection curves of 2 deforming surfaces...

This paper presents the mathematical framework, and develops algorithms accordingly, to continuously and robustly track the intersection curves of two deforming parametric surfaces, with the deformation represented as generalized offset vector fields. The set of intersection curves of 2 deforming surfaces, over all time, is formulated as an implicit 2-manifold I in the augmented (by time domain...

In this paper, we present a subdivision-based approach to rasterize implicit surfaces embedded in volumetric Bézier patches undergoing a nonlinear deformation. Subdividing a given patch into simpler patches to perform the surface rasterization task is numerically robust, and allows guaranteeing visual accuracy even in the presence of geometric degeneracies. However, due to its memory requiremen...
متن کاملA geometric database for gene expression data
As the logical next step after sequencing the mouse genome, biologists have developed laboratory methods for rapidly determining where each of the 30K genes in the mouse genome is synthesizing protein. Applying these methods to the mouse brain, biologists are currently generating large numbers of 2D cross-sectional images that record the expression pattern for each gene in the mouse genome. In ...
